Aubrey Atwater - mountain dulcimer, old-time banjo, guitar, tin whistle, singing, repertoire, harmonica, percussion, clogging
Aubrey AtwaterAward-winning folk duo, Aubrey Atwater and Elwood Donnelly present delightful programs of traditional American folk music and percussive dance. Featuring in many dulcimer festivals around the US, their concerts are exciting and their energetic workshops show a deep understanding of the mountain dulcimer and traditional folk music. They have, in particular, spent many years at the feet of the legendary Jean Ritchie, soaking up the music, dance, and instrumention of southern Appalachia. Aubrey and Elwood blend gorgeous harmonies and play guitar, Appalachian mountain dulcimer, mandolin, tin whistle, harmonica, banjo, and other surprises including Appalachian clogging and French Canadian footwork. Their performance is appealing to all ages, and with humor, audience participation, and a relaxed stage presence, Aubrey and Elwood explain song origins to give more relevance to the material. Married since 1989, Aubrey and Elwood have performed and taught widely in the United States and abroad and their eleven recordings receive international airplay.
