He put up six I sent him: Coleman's March, Finlandia/Be Still My Soul, Great Grandad, Lee County Two-Step, Lonesome Cowboy and Lynchburg Town. Today he added I'll Fly Away. Yesterday I sent him Drifting Too Far From The Shore, Lover's Cuckoo and Sweet Betsy From Pike, so he'll be adding them any time now, too!

Actually, only one of those was a new tab. The others are from our dulcimer club's past newsletters, and we've got about 60 that I have yet to send!

Yes Steve Smith is the !!!MAJOR!!! contributor to the tab area. His contributions are greatly appreciated! I think ED's got the finest dulcimer tab area on the web thanks to Steve. I need to add some code that highlights new tab. But, I haven't gotten to it yet. Eventually!! Bruce

Steve, you and your club have done a great job. I especially like the fact that these are mostly bare bones. That's not meant to be insulting. Missy and I often tell our students that tablature is a starting point - not the end point. Sometimes one loses track of the basic tune when learning from tab (or by ear) when all the embellishments are added. You can go far by learning the basic tune and respective chords then doing your thang to make it yours. Good job! Tom

Thanks, Tom, Bruce and RHIL, for the comments! I do enjoy doing the tab, and it just makes it that much more worthwhile when more people can make use of it. Yes, I do try to keep our club tab fairly basic, as we have lots of beginners. That limits what we can work up, as they have to be in major keys and not too long or complicated. Over the years it's gotten tougher and tougher to find new tunes that are new to most people! Everything is arranged to be playable on just the melody string in either tuning, but I add enough chording to make it interesting should anyone care to make the leap. Folks who really want to get more complicated with ornamentation are usually able to add that on their own when they want to. And yes, Tom, I like to keep the melody prominent. Besides, I figure that it's a folk tune, and although I may be part of the ''folk'' it's not up to me to mess with success!

Here! Here! on Steve's tabs most of the songs I have working on those he has contributed and have been gotten from this site. Thanks loads. I also just found out about the alltabs.com site which has a interesting and nice dulcimer TablEdit files for download. Some different genres. There are some complicated songs for this dulcimer player but there are also some that are not too difficult. I'm off now to check out Sweet Betsy From Pike, I'll Fly Away, and Be Still My Soul.

''I'll Fly Away'' was out there the other day. (#236, Bruce) Maybe there was a ''hiccup'' when adding the new tab? I think it showed 221 pieces before, and now it says 219. What say, Bruce?
