Arranging ideas

Postby Mistydawn » Mon May 21, 2012 11:32 am

I took some workshops this weekend and in one we came up with a list of arranging ideas (i.e. changing octaves, changing keys, etc.). I wasn't able to write all of them down so I thought maybe the bright minds here could help me compose a list. I found a few ideas searching the archives, but not a comprehensive list all in one place. I really want to find - hopefully simple - ways to enhance and embellish tunes so I'm not playing the same exact thing four times over! Thanks for any input.

I assume you saw this. Lots of different ideas there, and many work for arranging as much as improvising

I hadn't seen that thread - didn't think to search for improvisation! Actually what I was hoping for was to compose a list of simple concepts that are not too technical. I can recall a few of the techniques people mentioned:
*Adding drones
*using arpeggios
*playing double notes (thirds or sixths)
*tremolo or bounces
*using syncopation
*changing tempo
*changing octave
*changing key
*damping
*finger plucking
*intro/outro
*vamping
*volume dynamics
*grace notes
*medleys

I guess that's enough to get started. Adding more as I find them.
