Kaufman Hammers

Hi folks,

Always on the look-out for new and interesting hammer designs (after all, you can't have too many hammers), I came across this website:

The "Tech Spec" listed on the Kaufman Hammers website specify their weight as "6 oz." Six ounces seems extremely heavy. My hammers average 1/2 ounce per pair, a long way from 6 ounces.

The same thing happened when I tried as well. Which is part of why I made my original posting. Maybe, they're just starting out.

Pretty! I have a feeling the tech specs were supposed to say 6 grams, not ounces. They look about right for a 6 gram weight.

Since the "Purchase" area says under construction, it seems likely they are just getting set up to sell online. Maybe the email address isn't active yet.

Thanks for sharing the site! Unfortunately I'm always willing to spend more money on hammers.

Hello all,

My name is Cory Kaufman. I was surprised to see this string on the forum. I made the test website a while ago and posted to my personal Comcast webspace. I haven't gone live with selling the hammers quite yet. I've made quite a few pairs but only sold locally in Portland, OR so far. I do own the domain name "kaufmanhammers.com" and will be posting a new site in a month or so.

It was very encouraging for me to see your comments. I have a day job working in IT Support, but a real passion for woodworking and music. My wife and I have three kids under the age of Six (Twin 3yr old boys, and 5yr old daughter) so woodworking is also my "sanity" time in the evenings...

Regarding the hammers, I have three models I intend to make/sell:
1) Double-sided Wood inlay (like the current website)
2) Double-sided laminated head
3) Single-sided arc head

Also, to answer a previous question the weight of the individual hammer is 0.2 oz. Sorry for the confusion, I didn't think anyone would really see the site yet.

Thanks Cory for the update. When you go live with the new website, please post that information here, as I think that these forums would be a good venue to get that word out to the HD community. I currently own and play with a dozen different hammers (some more than others), and I find your's attractive enough to make it a "bakers dozen". Good luck with Kaufmann's Hammers.
