Sad News - Keith Young died

Postby kwl » Thu Feb 09, 2012 6:23 pm

I just received word that dulcimer maker Keith Young died earlier today. Here is the information from his website: http://www.appalachiandulcimers.com/. I did not know Keith well, but the few times we did interact he was pleasant and helpful. He will be missed by the dulcimer community and leaves a large hole in the field of building traditional-style dulcimer. My sympathy goes out to his wife Mary and the rest of his family and friends.

That is sad news. Another one of the "keepers of the flame" has gone from us.
I have his 2-DVD set about how to build a dulcimer, and I enjoy it very much.
May God comfort his wife and family at this very difficult time in their lives.

Thanks for the post. My grandfather passed yesterday morning but had been on respirator since the previous morning. I have never known such a loving family man and skilled craftsman. I will miss him very much and this has been hard on us all. He was perfectly healthy and I felt this happened to soon. He passed doing what he loved, making dulcimers.

For those of you that knew grandpa Keith, keep your eyes open for the exact date, as there will be a celebration of life sometime next week/weekend. We appreciate everyone's support.

He will be sorely missed. He was my first dulcimer teacher and my inspiration for starting to build. Many pleasant afternoons were spent at Colvin Mill listening to the Mill Run Dulcimer band.
