What would you consider a "reasonable price"? There's a Simerman hourglass MD that just sold on Ebay last Thursday for $950. Here's the URL: http://www.ebay.com/itm/120782263497?ss ... 4321wt_893

I don't know if that price is excessive or not, but that's what a bidder was willing to pay, and other bids were almost that high.

Having watch Kurt's instruments sell over the years, I would consider that a bargain. Whoever bought that instrument did well.

I have a fabulous Simerman for sale. The price is not "reasonable", however. I won't make a profit, but do need to get out of it what I put into it. This dulcimer is made of curly koa, has an ebony fretboard with moon and star inlays the length of the fretboard, and a hand-carved scrollhead. Condition is excellent/comes with the original, fitted case. Pictures available. Call MJ at 517.740.6589.

Simerman dulcimers usually go for very high prices. I've never played one so I couldn't tell you why, though the fact that Simerman is now deceased naturally limits their availability. ...But are they really that much better than most other makers' dulcimers? What makes them so expensive?

Simerman dulcimers vary in price depending on woods used, size, and model. I can tell you that his performance dulcimers are some of the best sounding dulcimers that I own. They are right up there with Blue Lion and Bonnie Carol. My all rosewood hourglass with a carved scroll head-stock rings like a bell, has accurate intonation and the craftsmanship is exquisite. Is it worth the price? In my opinion, yes. Of course if I was to sell it today, I would probably get more than I paid for it because it is a very unique and rare style that Rev. Simerman made. We also must remember that Rev. Simerman didn't charge any more for his dulcimers that many other builders. Folkcraft, Blue Lion, Bonnie Carol,Bear Meadow and builders on this site charge as much or more than he did.

Did you ever find the Simerman Dulcimer you were looking for? I have an all-walnut Simerman Travel (Mountain) Dulcimer that I have been thinking of selling. I could put together the technical info and take a few pictures if you are interested.

I also have a Simerman performance dulcimer I'm interested in selling. It has a beautiful rosewood back, pick-up, inlays etc. and hasn't been played for more than 5 hours total and is in the very same condition as when Mr. Simerman sent it. It was a gift for a very special anniversary, but I never learned how to play . Mr. Simerman was very found of this one and up to that date was the nicest dulcimer he ever made according to the conversation he and my husband had. I'm willing to let it go for what my husband paid which was $1566 + shipping.

This dulcimer has now been sold.
