Do most bowed dulcimer players use a standard collapsible metal stand, or the cloth type that mountain dulcimer players tend to use?

I would suggest you use the music stand that is most comfortable for you. I use my "mountain dulcimer" music stand whenever I play any of my instruments (dulcimer and non-dulcimer), because I've found it to work well for me...very comfortable. Do what's best for YOU.

If you're thinking about a music stand to bring to Dulcimerville I would think about one that doesn't tip over easily. In the classes it's not too bad but if you want to do the orchestra, it does get a bit crowded and a more substantial stand is a blessing. The previous post's advice I think is really good. Use what you are most comfortable with.
