VA Dulcimer Exibition

Postby JohnH » Mon Mar 21, 2011 6:33 pm

Earlier today I had the privilige of looking at in excess of two hundred and fify pics which John Shaw took on a recent visit to the VA dulcimer exibition. I saw pics of 'old friends' and of course lots that were new. A thank you to all who made the exhibition possible !

JohnH, I am glad that you enjoyed John Shaw's pictures. It certainly is a wonderful exhibit. I was glad I was able to see it in person.

Yep, it's a corker. And there's way more depth to the experience of seeing a big roomful of them, up close, than just reading some book or article.

I agree. Seeing that exhibit was the best part of my brief vacation last fall. To have access to these rooms full of historic dulcimers all by myself was a special treat. I tried to take many photos and to drink it all in slowly, knowing that this was a rare experience. I got a real sense of history there, and was amazed at the wide variety of styles and shapes represented there. What a great day that was!

Just so everyone knows,
You still have a chance to see the exhibit if you haven't been able to make it there yet. I was there this past weekend, and the receptionist said the exhibit won't be taken down right away at the end of March (today), like originally planned. Instead you can plan on the exhibit being there for at least another three weeks, maybe more. They are not going to take the exhibit down until the contractor who is redoing some of the rooms (I presume to ready them for another exhibit) tells them he needs to access the area currently occupied by the dulcimers.
So, if you haven't made it, and you have some free time in the next three weeks or so, you still have a chance to see it in person.
I highly recommend it.
