Bowed Dulcimer Basics

Hi guys,

For those of you just getting started on the bowed dulcimer, I have uploaded a video to Youtube which goes through all the very beginning information. Ken, I looked for this and didn't find it. Found lots of other BD youtubes -- enough to really regret being on a slow dial-up connection.

The search did yield a couple of surprises. Came across a BD video labeled "Judy's Bowed Dulcimer" by Nic Hambas. I didn't realize he put sound tests on youtube. It is my BD & he had another one featuring my baritone MD he made.

Thanks for doing this video, Ken! (I packed up my laptop and went looking for a WiFi hotspot -- at home it was loading 1 minute of video per hour.) This makes several things a bit clearer. The video is saved for future study, too. A picture truly is worth a thousand words!

The problem in finding it originally may have been searching for it too soon after it was posted. Does YouTube have a delay before videos show up in a search?

Hi Judy,

This is my first experience being involved in this and my friend Harry did most of it. It did take a while to upload the video and then get the title and search words down etc. I think there is a delay. This is all very new territory for me. I'm glad that this is out there to help folks get started. I am actively working on a book right now that will have graded tunes for musical and technical development. More on that later.

Love the you-tube intro video. Sitting here with my laptop on my lap, watching the video, my fingers on the tv remote control practicing fingering in first position. (Hey, we're snowed in. Time on my hands, and I'm so-o-o-o looking forward to the arrival of my b.d.) Ordered that bow on Amazon, which was on backorder, figuring I'd be paying for it sometime after the holidays.... Wrong, it arrived yesterday. So now I have a bow.... Pardon my rambling, but you all know how it was, anticipating the arrival of your instrument!!!

Glasser x series carbon fibre cello bow. Ken said it would be fine for a starter bow. The b.d..... Hmmm I don't know what I ordered.... His basic, darker stained, half frets only on the 1 1/2 and 6 1/2.
