We've got all the notes and we're not afraid to use them.

Where Can I buy a Chromatic Dulcimer?

Do you have the names of any craftsmen who are making chromatic dulcimers? Sounds very good.

Any of the makers on this list can produce a Chromatic for you. I have one from Harpmaker and like it very much.

David Bede is making lovely chromatic dulcimers and also ones with radius fingerboards. :)
He is in Melrose, Florida.
Best wishes,

I think most if not all builders will do a chromatic.. Harpmaker (Dave) does for sure and he's close in Warrensburg, Mo.

Whatever you decide to buy, I would consider getting a chromatic with the same vibrating string length (VSL) as your main diatonic dulcimer. I have "twin" dulcimers - the same models, one diatonic-plus-6+ fret and one chromatic - which I find greatly reduces confusion when I switch back and forth. (Of course, other people might not be bothered by changing fret board lengths so this wouldn't be an issue.)

Rob, I totally agree with you about keeping the same VSL length. All but one of my instruments have the same VSL and when playing the one that doesn't errors in playing increase noticeably. I finally hung that one on the wall. As it was the first instrument I ever got so I couldn't sell it.

Back to the original question, chromatic instrument are available from a number of good builders here on ED.

I'm sure many builders make them to order, even if they may not routinely keep any in stock. I have a very playable, great-sounding one by Ron Ewing.
