Hi guys,

Since this event has been announced I thought I would put in a little about it for the bowed crowd. At Cullowee I was limited in classes I could offer because of space limitations. However, I am very pleased to announce that I'll be able to do a more complete bowed dulcimer program at this upcoming June event. We will have the usual morning course which will have more of an ensemble focus and will gather together all BD players. The new additions will be afternoon electives. I get to do an advanced class! This will focus on playing in a large variety of keys, playing using no open strings, more intense bowing practices, and a real investigation of playing in a more expressive and nuanced way.
On the other end of the scale I also get to do a focused beginner's class so that we can really work on fundamentals and build a solid foundation for good playing. Check out the website ( http://www.dulcimerville.com) and I hope you'll all consider participating.

Hey, Ken and everybody.

I thought I'd add that the dates of DULCIMERVILLE will be Mon., June 7 thru Sat., June 12, 2010. The location will be the YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly in Black Mountain, NC. It's 2 miles off I-40, with beautiful mountain scenery. Details are at http://DULCIMERVILLE.com .

I'm happy to announce that besides teaching the bowed dulcimer course and 2-hr. classes, Ken will be conducting the Dulcimer Orchestra, a tradition he started about 15 years ago when we were in Boone, NC. It's open to bowed and mountain dulcimer players of all skill levels. Nobody can get music as well as Ken from a large population of dulcimer players - as scary as that can be!

Visit http://Dulcimerville.com to hear a very beautiful piece played on bowed dulcimer and written by Ken Bloom - "El Invierno del Alma." Spots are available in Ken's morning Bowing course at Dulcimerville 6/7-12, and in his special subject classes on "Beginner Bowed Dulcimer," "Advanced Bowed Dulcimer" and "The Circle of Fifths." He will also be leading our Dulcimerville Orchestra, which will have a bowed dulcimer section.

Other music spotlighted:
1. Bill Taylor playing "Emma's Song," which he wrote for his daughter when she was born - and on which she plays flute!
2. Doug Berch flatpicking the Scottish air "Flowers of the Forest" and the reel "The Durham Rangers."
3. Paul Andry playing a lovely arrangement of "Home on the Range."

Ken Bloom conducted our Dulcimer Orchestra at Dulcimerville. The group played his lovely arrangement of "Caitlin Tyrell." You can see and hear the performance on the Dulcimerville Facebook page:

Pretty darn good for about 3 hours of practice!
