Thanks Greg!

I am really looking forward to the workshop and as I said I will post more about what I will be teaching soon.....

That brings me to a question for all of you.....What are some things that you would like to have me teach? I know you want advanced stuff and I have some really great information and ideas to share, but if there is something specific to you.....something you really want to know more about, or are having trouble with......I would like to know in advance so I can prepare for those specific questions. You can let me know here or email me at kward@zoomnet.net. I want this to be "your" workshop!

Thanks,

Kendra

Hi all...

As for things I would really like to learn... How about some damper pedal techniques, and also quick ways of navigating the entire instrument to pick up those pesky chromatics? Do you have any drills for that sort of thing? Also, I would love to get better at finding my way around various chords on the instrument when playing with a group that uses lead sheets. I can quickly grab the I, IV, and V chords, but when the music calls for a Gmaj7, I wish I could quickly find that pretty maj7!!!!

Thanks!

Hi again Kendra,

I just thought of another topic... I would love to learn the "turn", that cool in-between embellishment you hear players do in a lot of Celtic phrasing. I understand the theory behind it, but I don't know how to get my hammers doing in rhythm what my brain is trying to tell them! :-)

Thanks!

Well, mostly I make up arrangments for hymns, so anything that is helpful in taking the melody and embellishing and accompanying the melody so that I can play a solo and not feel like a one fingered piano player! I usually need three verses to cover the offering, at least two on longer hymns, so I want to have variation each time. So I want the tools to make beautiful music, and the ability to pull it off, and the confidence I'm doing well. (is that too tall an order! )

I probably should jump on this list more often (maybe once every few months)! I am located in Baltimore, MD but for the last 8 years, I conducted a series of intensive week-long workshops in Sandbridge, VA -- at the ocean in the early fall. It is a beautiful time to be at the beach! Please take a look at www.sandbridgedulcimer.com I now run three weeks of the workshops: the first week is geared to mostly intermediate level players; week #2 is for intermediate/advanced players; and week #3 is for advanced players. Check it out! I am also doing a weekend workshop for intermediate players in Watkins Glen, NY in late April (see http://www.kenkolodner.com/watkins-glen ... treat.html).

Ken, your Watkins Glen workshop is veeerrrry tempting and Sandbridge is just a dream for me. Would love some workshops with you sometime. Do you ever visit the Lancaster PA area?

The closest I will be to Lancaster, PA this year is Kutztown, PA. My son and I will be performing and teaching at the Maiden Creek Old-time Festival on July 29. I will be doing a couple of hammered dulcimer and fiddle workshops at the festival. Lancaster is only 1.5 hours from Baltimore. Perhaps consider coming for a lesson sometime! I played a contra dance in Lancaster about a year ago but other than that, no plans to be in your town!
