How about a "dulcimer school" update?

I'm waiting for the new site, and wondered how it is coming along?

Funny you should ask today. Steve and I met this evening with the company that is building the website - nope, we're not doing this one ourselves. They now have all of my rudiments work to date, and Steve is sending them a bunch of files tomorrow. This is a well funded/staffed company with quite a bit of experience with similar sites and they are holding our hands through this process. We are doing exactly what they tell us and they are telling us to just focus on content and not announce any more dates. They will tell us when we can go live after they've fully tested the site with our material.

This is a little different for both me and Steve as we're very much hands on people. We both feel this is too important to be a learning experience for us. We've ask for help from the pros and think it will pay off in the long run. Dulcimer School will still cost $15 per month.

Thanks so much for asking.

We are both shooting some additional new material the week of December 6th. Dulcimer School is coming along and we're glad to have the help.

I'm excited about teaching this way. There's a number of topics that are best taught bit by bit over a number of weeks or months, music theory, for instance. Special topics like DAA with no 6½ fret or chromatic DAD don't usually draw enough to justify significant time at festivals. Dulcimerschool will be good for this kind of thing, too.

Anyone have ideas on what you would want to learn if you were a Dulcimer School student? Any questions about anything? I'm very excited about moving forward with all of this!

Here's a suggestion. I'd like to know more about modes beyond DAA and DAD. Especially the ones no one seems to play.

BTW, Stephen, I tried the heavier guage strings for DAA and liked to sound. Plus I think DAG sound better, too. And I can given folks a logical reason for having more than 1 instrument.

When you get this "school" off the ground, it's going to be the best thing yet. For those who can't get to an instructor or even anyone else who plays, it'll be such a tremendous help. For those who are intermediate and beyond players, it'll keep you on your toes, too. This is going to be fantastic. I'm patient and can wait as long as it takes to get this project up and running. It'll be well worth the wait.

Will this be on a month to month basis, or do you have to sign up for a specified amount of time.

Thanks

Nancy,

It will be month to month. If you like it, we hope you'll stick around.

I am anxiously awaiting the school. I have to be able to play by Evart this year! Give me a keyboard and I can make it smoke but I am having problems with this box of strings! Both hammered and mountain!

I'd like to learn more about chords and how to use them to play backup/harmony, especially on a baritone or bass. Looking forward to the school. Lee

What I would like to learn is how to take a hymn or other song that I know the melody of by heart and figure out how to put chords in it, and how to tell which chords and where.
