Marshall...it isn't said enough.. Thank you for starting this room. I learn so much in our litte Paltalk room. I love that we have people from all walks of life and all playing styles pop in. Also that we get people from all over the world popping in and that we have other instruments play too!!! Like when Mamams from Hawaii played the Native American flute the other night that was AWESOME!!! I love that Randy can play his fretless banjo or dulcimer and it's all good.... that Dave or you can play in DAA with or without noter and everyone accepts that!!! I love that Jerry Lee can pop in on his electric dulcimer and give a new twist to an old song and it's still all good!!! I love that Ron Z. can play anything.. man was he awesome on guitar tonight or what!!!!!! I most esp love that our little room has room for everyone to play from beginner to the pro... and we all play and get along VERY well.... so thank you Marshall!!!!

Marshall
I'm looking forward to our Paltalk session this evening. It's after Thanksgiving, so I'll be more tolerant of people playing Christmas songs. I'll probably play a few Christmas/Advent songs too!

On our Dulcimer Club Paltalk session last week (Tuesday, Jan 18) we had many people join to play and also some people joined just to listen. Occasionally we have had people who have tried to play but there were microphone problems. I tried to help someone this week with microphone trouble and from that experience I decided to make some notes with screen shots that might be useful for such events in the future. I put the notes along with screen captures into a pdf file but it was too large for this site so I made an abbreviated version which is attached (under 2 MB).

The problem this week may have been something we missed with Paltalk Express. I don't have any experience with Paltalk Express but it appears Paltalk Express doesn't have the same ability to review/test microphone and speaker settings as Paltalk Messenger, which is what I use.

In a nutshell, it appears Paltalk Messenger allows us to check our microphone and speakers before joining a chat room. Paltalk Express doesn't appear to have an ability to check speakers and microphone before joining a chat room. Maybe some others who have used Paltalk Express can provide more information for Paltalk Express.

Anyway, I know some people have tried to get their mic working in the past and weren't successful and I haven't seen them come back. Maybe this pdf file will provide some information that will help players find solutions and hopefully some dulcimer players would like to try again.
I hope to see (hear) you this Tuesday on Paltalk at 8PM Eastern Time (USA).

Thanks
Dave

I'm planning on (and looking forward to) joining this evening.
See you there.

P.S. Instructions for getting on Paltalk are in the pdf file on the previous post here.

Everyone
I checked the pdf file that was posted in January, 2012 (above), and it appears the instructions for setup are still accurate for joining Paltalk.

The Dulcimer Club is meeting this evening at 8PM Eastern time. The group is a very welcoming group, so come join us and play a tune or two.

Thanks
Dave
