(SOLD) Blue Lion Style II (IIR Rosewood) and Blue Heron case

Apologies for leaving this up - I don't see a delete thread option. Just wanted to note that the dulcimer has been sold to the lovely Carole, 6/14/2011.

Hi all - I have a Blue Lion Style II (IIR Rosewood with flat tuners and heart soundholes) for sale.

The IIR with heart soundholes would cost $845 purchased new from Blue Lion. It comes with a custom fitted softshell Blue Heron case which retails for $150.

To buy these items new would cost just over $1000 with taxes and shipping. I received the dulcimer as a gift and gave learning to play it a whirl (I did not know how to play it when I got it but was interested in learning) but I just don't have a talent for it and it has mostly been sitting idle. It is unblemished, perfect in every way. I'm selling it because I could use the money (I'm a grad student). Plus it's a shame for such a lovely instrument to not have an owner who can love and play it. I will sell it for $800 with shipping (insured and professionally packed by UPS) not included - that's TBD based on your location and the cost of Declared Value, etc.

I'd take payment via cashier's check or a bank wire transfer (most folks can do those easily online these days), whichever you like. I do have to wait to ship until payment has cleared though.

The dulcimer has shiny new strings, and I will also send along a strap and my picks, and a stack of mountain dulcimer books. All that is probably worth around $50 but I'd rather add them as a thanks for purchase than try to sort out the market value of the books.

Here is some more info:

The Blue Lion IIR Rosewood mountain dulcimer is Blue Lion's most luxuriously appointed dulcimer. With the custom Blue Heron softshell case, the retail total of this package (not including the accessories and books I will add in as a bonus) is $1035. The dulcimer retails for $885 (including the cost of the heart soundholes). The custom softshell case, which I have used to transport the dulcimer safely and damage-free as an airplane carryon, retails for $150. I will not sell them separately because the case is customized to fit this model of Blue Lion dulcimer.

This dulcimer has the scroll peghead, heart soundholes, the signature Blue Lion mother-of-pearl rose inlay, inlaid wood marquetry backstrip, and a satin finish. The back, sides, top, and peghead are all bookmatched. This model dulcimer has the satin lacquer finish, Honduras mahogany fingerboard with rosewood overlay, ebony nut and saddle, and planetary tuners. I recently gave it a brand new set of dulcimer strings, so it is ready to play.

This dulcimer was a gift from my grandmother. Because it had sentimental value I have held on to it for years despite the fact that I cannot and do not play it. I was taking lessons which I was enjoying very much when she gave it to me, but as it turns out I don't have the aptitude or passion this lovely instrument deserves. It has been carefully cared for and kept in its case and in my bedroom closet (which is a consistent 70something temperature and regulated humidity), not in a garage or attic or exposed to heat and air. I kept it clean and occasionally took it out and played the one song I know (Little Sparrow) and gave it a polish with a dry clean cloth before putting it away again. As you can see from the photos, it is in minty condition. I scrutinized it for flaws, dings, scratches, etc. and found none. I was always very, very careful with it because of its value.

I am finally selling it because it turns out that what I really love and have a great passion for is traditional archery, and the sale of this bow will go toward the purchase of an equally beautiful traditional recurve bow (the Martin Dream Catcher, hopefully) which would become a prized AND useful possession that I will use frequently and for many years. I think my grandmother would approve of selling it for this purpose- she was a very practical and supportive lady.

Also, I sometimes sell on ebay and you can see my feedback there under sarah_anne_smith. I am not selling this item on ebay because the fees would be so crazy high, nearly $100. Plus I know that this site is full of real dulcimer players and not potential scammers.
