REDWOOD DULCIMER DAY (RDD)
Saturday, August 18
Aptos, CA

While the Santa Cruz area of CA might not be the first place that one might associate with the Appalachian Mountain Dulcimer, the area has a rich history of innovative dulcimer making and creative dulcimer playing styles. This tradition of exploring and experimenting with the dulcimer, which was energetically underway by the 1970's, has meaningfully contributed to the contemporary American dulcimer revival movement (that's us, folks!). The upcoming 12th annual REDWOOD DULCIMER DAY (RDD) festival and concert celebrates and builds on this interesting and colorful legacy!

For 2012, REDWOOD DULCIMER DAY once again offers variety and excellence in our lineup: innovative and world class guest artists that specialize in many musical genres and approaches
to the mountain dulcimer, as well as workshops that range from inviting presentations of beginning basics to thought provoking hands-on explorations of advanced topics!

Our workshop faculty and performers for 2012 include:

-- Aaron O’Rourke, 2010 Dulcimer National Champion
-- Neal Hellman, Nationally recognized recording artist, founder of Gourd Music
-- Peter Tommerup, Eclectic Dulcimer performer, Instructor and RDD co-founder
-- D.J. Hamouris, Dulcimer performer and Instructor
-- Ron Beardslee, Director of RDD and Instructor

If you're just getting started and don’t own a mountain dulcimer yet, come anyway: we'll lend you an instrument to get you started. And if you already play, come prepared to make some meaningful musical leaps!

Our workshops and faculty concert will be held at the beautiful Aptos Community Methodist Church located at 221 Thunderbird Dr, Aptos CA 95003. Doors open for the workshops at 9:00 AM with the faculty concert starting at 7:30 PM.
