I've uploaded another fiddle tune from Kentucky this week on YouTube. Bullfrog on a Puncheon Floor is a very neat tune I learned several years ago from Don Pedi.

This week's offering is the popular old time tune, Liberty played in two registers. I've been teaching this one to my intermediate dulcimer students.

Sometimes I'm fooling around with a tune I know that I think "This can't possibly be played on dulcimer", and then it falls right into place and I'm totally amazed. Playing this Romanian tune out of E major in D tuning turned out to be the key to making it work on dulcimer. This week's offereing is just such a tune. It is a traditional Romanian folk dance tune I've played on pennywhistle for many years which I thought I'd try on dulcimer for lark. The key to making it work was to play it in E major from DAD tuning.

This week's offering is the version of Old Joe Clark I knew as a youngster. It's in a minor key and quite different from the one commonly played in the dulcimer community.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAB1m2ihcmg

Here's a sample of the verses:

When I was a little boy, I used to want a knife.
Now I am a bigger boy, I'd rather have a wife.

When I was a little girl, I used to play with toys.
Now I am a bigger girl, I'd rather play with boys.

Enjoy,
