Documentary get-together

Postby Ken Bloom » Mon Jul 23, 2012 8:15 am

Hi guys,

The gathering for the documentary is going to take place on September 15, a Saturday here in Pilot Mountain. It's going to be held at the Quaker church across the street from my house on Main Street here in Pilot and I know at least some of the folks plan to stay overnight at the hotel.
As we have done in past gatherings, I'll be teaching a few tunes, some new techniques, and then lots of playing. If enough folks stay over, we'll do a jam at the hotel that evening. The film makers will be active during our sessions and I will arrange the breaks so that they have an opportunity to interview as many of the BD players as possible. If you ae coming and intend to stay over, please let me know so that I can talk to to the hotel and see if I can get you guys a discount. I think it will be a fun time and all bowed dulcimer players are invited! For more info, just ask or e-mail me (kbloom1@triad.rr.com).

We're all set for the 15th. I'm preparing the teaching material now. I have a few things to cover. One is a march that is easy to play and quite tuneful in the key of A. I try to do some things in a variety of keys at these gatherings. There has been interest in the past on covering the basics of playing Swing and it's cousin, Gypsy Jazz so I'll be doing a bit of that too along with some new technical exercises. Any of you bowed dulcimer players out there are welcome and if there are folks who would like to check out the bowed dulcimer, this would be good opportunity to see a variety of instruments in one place. See many of you in less than two weeks.
