Difyrrwch Corbet o Ynys Maengwyn - Sheet music wanted

Postby Robin the Busker » Sat Oct 03, 2009 6:59 am

I heard this Welsh jig at last night's pub session and the first part was great fun on MD but I failed to capture part 2

A long shot this - but does anyone know where I could find the notation? I've tried "The Session" website (which has hundreds of tunes) but with no luck. It sounds like the type of tune that may well have "crossed the pond".

Here's a link to an MP3 of the tune (it is the first tune on click to play) - you may know it as something else?

http://mp3zr.com/?q=Difyrrwch+Corbet+O+Ynys+Maengwyn%2FDifyrrwch+Gwyr+Dolgellau%2FYmdaith+Caerfifili%2FTy+Coch+Caerdydd

I'll work it out from the MP3 for MD if I can't find the music but I'd like to give the notation to some friends who play fiddle.

Bore da, Robin,

Unfortunately, I'm not sure where to find the sheet music for that tune - have you tried Ar Log itself? I'm not sure the band is still in existence (I have several of their albums - yep lp's - fantastic band!)

You might try the record label itself; Recordiau Sain Cyf - http://www.sainwales.com/ They are the premier contact in Wales for Welsh music! I'm sure they could point you in the right direction.

Pob lwc / Good luck,
Mike S

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the info.

I found a couple of websites about trad Welsh music and the best lead I have is this list of sessions in Wales:

http://www.trac-cymru.org/sessions.html

I'm going to try and contact a couple of the ones that are reasonably local to me and see if I can get a list of say 12 Welsh "session" tunes out of them. We will adapt them to old-time style (AABB), inject a bit of "life" into the rhythm and then gatecrash one of the sessions with banjo, guitar, fiddle, mandolin and MD

I've worked out Difyrrwch Corbet o Ynys Maengwyn from the sound clip - just need to spead it up and smooth it out now 8)
