Black Velvet Band

Postby GWentland » Thu Nov 05, 2009 12:18 am

I was hoping someone might have a nice arrangement for the old Irish classic "Black Velvet Band" hopefully in DAD. Thank You in advance.

Thank you for turning me on to this song. Now that Christmas is nearly over I am enjoying working up Black Velvet Band.

Hi Norm, I put a simple arrangement of Black Velvet Band in the Tablature Library here on ED. If you come up with a more creative version, please share. Thank You.

Hello GWentland

I used your tab, but I did take the liberty to drop it down to D. Sometimes I like to change keys to add variety. I love the story line of Black Velvet Band.

I have a suggestion on one of the verses.

As I was out strolling down broadway
Not intending to go very far
I met with a frolicksome damsel
Applying her trade in a bar
Well a watch she took from a customer
And she slipped it right into my hand
Then the Watch came and put me in prison
Bad luck to the black velvet band

He was being transported for being the receiver of stolen property. The next verse many versions give is along the lines of:

Before judge and jury next morning, Both of us did appear
A gentleman claimed his jewellery, And the case against us was clear
Seven long years transportation, Right down to "Van Dieman's Land"
Far away from my friends and companions, Betrayed by the black velvet band.
