Actually, the only group playing I do is with the Filk music people. These are science fiction fans who play music. A fun group--traditionally they play satirical songs with science fiction or space themes, though they actualy play a lot more than that. I enjoy them because they appreciate nuttiness and tolerate less-than-ideal musicianship. I can sing horrible songs like "Barfy the Seasick Hedgehog" as well as play my fake medieval dulcimer tunes. Anyway, within the nationwide Filk comunity, there are a lot of good songs about space themes, many to origianal tunes, some funny, some to existing melodies. And I'll be darned if I can think of a single one of them. My brother is much more involved in their community--I have just been showing up to his house sings for the last year. BY the way, it is said that filk began 40 or more yeas ago as a typo on some schedule that was supposed to be folk, but since they weren't quite really singing folk, the name stuck.
