I've been making dulcimers for 30 years from mostly locally found hardwoods. I try to put a unique quality in each dulcimer so that no two are alike. No assembly line for me, that takes the magic out of it. I perfer to custom make each dulcimer, either to a customer's or my own satisfaction. I like to know specifically where the wood comes from so I can pass that information on to the person who will be playing it. Woods I have used are: walnut, cherry, maple, mahogany, poplar, sasafrass, sycamore, red gum, pawlonia, redwood, western red cedar.
